Summer 2019’s Top Gaming App

Here in 2019, it seems that every week someone releases or recommends a brand-new gaming app. It’s now possible to play all manner of games on the go, from easy puzzle games to full-on battle royale and role-playing epics. Both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store are chock-full of gaming apps — in fact, there are now so many that it can be overwhelming to stay up-to-date with the latest hot releases. If you’re looking for a new game to download and play this summer, here are some of the top gaming apps that are available to play on both Android and iOS.

Snapchat – iOS and Android

Okay, so this one isn’t so much a gaming app as a social media app, but the new Snap Games gaming platform from Snapchat will undoubtedly be one of the most talked-about and reviewed apps of the summer. This gaming platform includes plenty of easy-to-play social games — that you can invite your friends to play with you — like Tiny Royale, C.A.T.S., Snake Squad, Drift Race, Zombie Rescue Squad and Bitmoji Party.

If you’re looking for social games that offer a bit more excitement, however, real-money gaming apps from poker brands like PokerStars and 888 will be more up your street. These types of apps are adults-only strictly, so if you’re looking for something for all the family to play keep on reading.

Pokémon Rumble Rush – Android

We’re likely to go Pokémon crazy again this summer thanks to the release of the latest installment in the Pokémon juggernaut: Pokémon Rumble Rush. This Android-only for the moment game captures all the frenzy of the classic DS and Game Boy games, as you set out to explore an island and catch as many Pokémon as you can. Every two weeks, the island gets swapped out for another one, and if you’re eager to get some upgrades and buy some Pokémon-hunting gear, then you can pay to speed up the ore refinement process.

Dr. Mario World – iOS and Android

There’s nothing like a good hyper-casual puzzle game to beat the boredom of the daily commute, especially when that game involves everyone’s favorite Italian plumber! Dr. Mario World is the mobile debut of one of Nintendo’s original Match 3 games, plus it’s free to play, so the gaming powerhouse stays true to form with this release. The concept is simple — as Dr. Mario, you must dispose of as many viruses as you can with only a limited number of capsules — but it’s challenging enough to keep the busiest minds engaged.

Solar Explorer: New Dawn – iOS

Solar Explorer: New Dawn is a mobile update on a classic game called Lunar Lander. If you’ve not been around long enough to remember that one, then you’re charged with landing a spacecraft as safely and quickly as you can, dodging obstacles and faulty thrusters along the way. When I say this is an update, I mean it’s a 21st-century update, as the game asks you to build a spaceship at first before having to land it on different planets. This one is also simple enough in concept, but thanks to the immersive angles and gameplay, it’s beautiful and a joy to play.
