For those who have been following Kim Kardashian and her sisters on Instagram, you might have seen her gruesome looking photo with the specks of blood all over her face. That’s Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment or famously known as Vampire Facial, or Dracula Therapy. PRP treatment does not give our skin an instant result like Botox, but this treatment will give our skin more natural radiance and glow. Since PRP is using body’s own blood, thus, the results develop over time.
What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Treatment?
PRP Treatment is not all novel because it has been around for decades to help healing sports related injuries such as tendon damage. PRP is 100% safe because it uses platelets collected from our own blood which ensure that there is no risk of disease transmission or injection, allergic reaction or rejection. PRP treatment can be performed on everyone because it is natural as our body does not feel any sense of violation by foreign elements. Our own platelets have growth factors that are needed to repair the body, and very useful to combat the signs of aging.
PRP is an easy and quick procedure because it does not involve surgery. These platelets are derived from blood collected from our body. Then, it will be put into a centrifuge and spun for a few minutes to separate the blood components into three (3) different components: Red Blood Cells (RBC), Gel Separator, Normal Plasma (PPP)/Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). When Platelets are activated in our body, they actually released healing proteins called growth factors to accelerate tissue repair on the skin.
What are the benefits of getting PRP Treatment?
Injection of PRP into the skin increases the amount of soft tissue generation including collagen. This procedure is far safer than any other surgical and non-surgical procedures. PRP treatment helps to restore and enhance skin regions that require volume, and improves its texture and tone considerably. The treatment will leave the skin looks more youthful and rejuvenated. It is suggested to have one treatment every month for the first three (3) months, and you can enjoy the benefits of PRP for up to 18 months after that.
Why you should get PRP Treatment?
You should get your PRP treatment if you are have the following skin concerns:
- Acne Removal
- Dark Spots Treatment
- Treatment for Pores
- Treatment for Wrinkles
- Treatment for Eye Bags or Dark Cirles
- Treatment for Dull Skin
- Treatment for Sagging Skin
My Personal Experience Getting PRP Treatment at Klinik Mediglow Dr. Hema
It was my first time ever to receive PRP Treatment at Klinik Mediglow Dr. Hema which is located at C-0-7, Ground Floor, Karamunsing Capital, Kota Kinabalu. The clinic is strategically located at the corner lot just opposite Elken, and Forever Living.
I was greeted by their friendly staff once I reached there. I was asked to wait for a moment as the aesthetic physician was having an appointment with a client. It was not long after that I was called and given some explanation about PRP treatment as well as consultation with Dr. Hana. She’s a pretty doctor, and I actually admire her skin. 😉
I was later brought into the Treatment Room where they cleansed my face from make-up and oil residues. Later on, I was given anaesthetic to numb my skin so I would never feel the pain during injections and micro-needling procedures.
Since the numbing process can take up to an hour, it is best to bring along a nice book or iPad/Tab to read, just to kill the time. Yes. I bought my iPad which has tons of digital books, enough to kill my time while waiting.
They took about 30cc (3 tubes, 10cc each tube) of blood from my left arm, and put them into centrifuge to separate the blood into 3 components – Red Blood Cells (RBC), Gel Separator, and Normal Plasma (PPP)/Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). I find it’s really interesting when they showed me the ‘separated’ blood. It reminds me of science, where you have to learn all about density. I asked them what happened with the red blood cells. I thought it would be gone to waste. I was later told that they would give me a bottle of my own red blood cells which should be used as overnight facial mask. Okay. I was so excited when they told me about having my own blood as facial mask. The blood should only be used within 3 days, and be put in the fridge.
The injections and micro-needling procedures were done by certified and professional aesthetic physician, Dr. Hana. You can watch my video where Dr. Hana explained the procedures while doing her job. I was so afraid of getting jabs, and I’m not a fan of syringe. I’m sure some of you are afraid of syringe. Anyway, I was so fortunate because Dr. Hana and her staff really did a good job of making some distractions so that my mind would never think about that eerie ‘slim’ syringe. Oh, I was given 2 tabs of paracetamol, and they massaged my face using ice cube before the injections. I couldn’t feel the coldness from the ice cube because my skin was totally numb.
Dr. Hana injected PRP under my eyes because I have dark circles due to lack of sleep. She also inserted some on both of my cheeks and chin to add volume. After that, she used micro-needling technique using derma-pen all over my face. I actually like this micro-needling because I felt really nice, and… because it does not look like a syringe. LOL!
As you can see from the photos, there were redness/pinkish on my face. It’s considered normal and it would subside after they apply mask to cool down the redness. Since PRP treatment involves injections and micro-needling, you can expect that there would be temporary swelling and bruises which lasted for 3-4 days. Don’t worry. You will be given medicine to reduce swelling. There’s no need to apply a 1-week on-leave because it does not give that painful feeling after treatment.
You can watch my video below to get the actual look on the procedures.

My Final Verdict
The best thing about PRP treatment is – you can wear make-up after treatment. There are no ‘pantang larang‘. I actually went straight to the gym after treatment, anyway. The only thing that you need is to always wear sunblock, every 4-5 hours. Why? Because that harmful UV can damage your cells and ‘promote’ the signs of aging. PRP Treatment is great for those who are looking forward to have better skin and look younger. You can simply drop Klinik Mediglow a call or Whatsapp. They will entertain your enquiries in no time. I would definitely recommend this PRP Treatment to be done at Klinik Mediglow Dr. Hema.
