It was Tuesday morning and I just had my breakfast before heading off to my office in Sembulan. Ting Tong! I received a message from my cousin, Jackson Jibit. ‘Kajon, mari sukung Friendship Concert 2019 kami dulu. Saturday, 30 March 2019.’ Concert? I didn’t ask further about it and said ‘Bah, kasi sia 2 tiket.’ I have been to a few concerts before but a concert involving 3 famous local choir groups is simply irresistible.
Friendship Concert 2019 was a jointly organized by Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and GingKaras. The main objective is to strengthen the relationship between local choirs in Sabah. It is a medium to create the feeling of togetherness and beat in unison. There were 3 choir groups involved, namely In-Unity Chorale, The Male-Efficient, and DBKK Choirs. The concert also featured the University-owned choir group – UMS Voice Ensemble.
Everyone was dress up so nice and they were singing from the heart. The harmonies were so excellent. It was so enjoyable to listen as they sung the different melodies. The choirs performed a variety of songs, new spins on oldies and classical songs as well as spicing up on pop songs. I was extremely impressed by each of the talented singers of GingKaras – Joe Japrin, Carls Evert Sayun, and Hosiani Keewon. There was a slight glitch with the microphone but Hosiani performed professionally and without doubt were amazing that evening.
The concert demonstrated the vocal capabilities of each of the choir members. I enjoyed watching the way the conductor led the choir, and I also noticed how much effort required into conducting. For instance, there was a hand gesture to tell the members to do crescendo and diminuendo. Kudos to Adsone M. Gabu, Hezron Gulon, and Dunstan Roland.
Looking forward for another concert just like this but would prefer to have orchestral group as accompaniment.
