I love watching drama regardless of the language, as long as it really caught my interests. You must be wondering why I watched this Turkish drama Kurt Seyit ve Sura. Frankly speaking, it was because the handsome protagonist. LOL! It was a love story between two lovers – First Lieutenant Seyit Eminof (played by Kivanc Tatlitug) and Sura (played by Farah Zeynep Abdullah). Well, more likely a ‘Romeo and Juliet’ kind of story where the ending was really unexpected.
What’s so special about this series? It’s because the series is solely based on a true story during World War I where there was a massive political change in Russia, Crimea, and Turkey. The series revolved between the story of Seyit and Sura, in which, some of the articles that I read from the Internet said Seyit was still in love with Sura despite of they had to part ways.
Kurt Seyit ve Şura is about the adventures of two people in love who during WWI Russia are forced to leave their lives and family behind during the Russian Revolution and escape to Istanbul. The journey of Kurt Seyit Eminof (Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ), a lieutenant from Crimea, and Şura (Farah Zeynep Abdullah), the beautiful daughter of a noble Russian family, tells their tale from the days of magnificence in Petrograd, to the Carpathian front line, from the riots, to the revolution, from Alushta to occupied Istanbul, to Pera in the 1920’s. It is the journey of their love.
There were too much going on between these two lovers especially when it involved religious and cultural differences. Based on what I learnt from the series, Seyit had too much pride to swallow and he would rather let go the one that he truly loved. He married to Murvet but it was hard to know whether Seyit really loved Murvet or was just following his father’s wishes.
Netflix’s show Kurt Seyit ve Sura with English subtitles. All 46 episodes based on a book written by Nermin Bezmen. I’m still curious whether or not both of them really led a happy marriage. Were they still longing for each other because based on the series itself, Seyit seemed to be unable to let go of the memories he had with Sura though Sura had already board the ship with Serge.
The last episode actually showed that Seyit learnt the truth about Petro who had been the snake lies concealed in the grass. Petro was the one who ruined their friendship, and killed their family as well as friends. In fact, Petro managed to make Seyit and Sura parted, but, he was unable to make Sura fell for him. Seyit buried Petro alive. This was the hardest part to swallow – buried your friend alive who have betrayed you. Seyit took revenge on Petro as he reminded himself about his dead brother, Osman.
The ending is great even though it may be heartbreaking for most of Seyit-Sura followers. I guess it would be really great if they couldn’t be together because there were too much to handle in hands. The relationship was complicated enough with having least trust from either one of them. I don’t think this series is all about Seyit and Sura, rather it dealt with Seyit and how he ‘survived’ without Sura, and lived happily with Murvet Murka.
