Blog Detox: #MyHeartIsInRanau – My Life in Ranau

Posted on March 18, 2018 by Dayve Rampas

It has never crossed my mind that I have to work ‘quite’ far away from my family. The day I received the letter was the day I found myself doomed. I was so frustrated and almost gave up. I told myself that I would rather never to accept this appointment that to be parted from my family, especially from my kids. I never thought that I would have to stay away from home, again.

I thought I would never have to experience the painful of having to be far away from my parents, and grandparents. I promised to myself that I would never stay away from my family again, ever since the day my grandpa was admitted to the ICU. I blamed myself a lot. I prayed a lot so that God would give me a chance to meet him. Yes. God did answer my prayer, and He gave me more than a year to spend with my Grandpa. He passed away on 20 November 2009. It’s the date that I shall never forget, and I admit that I still find myself hard to move on. A stab straight to the heart. It’s hard to accept the fact that he is no longer with us. Let’s not talk about my late Grandpa. I just feel like to share the feeling that I had before this, and what I feel today.

There’s a lot that I wanted to share with you but time constraint has been part of my life at the moment. In fact, I’m still in the middle of adjusting myself with the new environment but I (positively) believe that I can endure this because I have met lots of friendly and supportive people in Ranau. As for today’s post, I purposely named it as #MyHeartIsInRanau because this is going to be a new ‘corner’ for this blog, my blog, to share about my life, and what you can expect when you’re in Ranau. I must say, it’s the best place to live if you’re looking for a peaceful place, or just cannot stand with the hectic lifestyle.

I may be far away from home town in KK but I always have the chance to enjoy my favourite traditional dishes. Linopot is my favourite one, not forgetting Tuhau, Jinaruk do Bambangan, Pinasakan, Hinava, etc. This is our CNY lunch made by one of the staff. All I can say is 👍👍👍 Poingkaaaa! #cny #chinesenewyear #delicacy #local #dish #ranau #kundasang #kinabalu #mountkinabalu #mtkinabalu #gunungkinabalu #sabah #sabahtourism #takentoday #igborneo #iphonex #malaysia #northborneo #tourism #sabahan #sabahanblogger #kkblogger #myheartisinranau #foodie #foodporn #nokokitofoodseekers #nokokito #photooftheday

Most of the people here in Ranau are really friendly, and helpful. Frankly speaking, I thought I would ‘die’ just because I have the thought that ‘I have no family or relatives here in Ranau’ until I get to know this bubbly and friendly Penampang lady who have been residing in Ranau for more than 10 years. Let’s just call her ‘Ivy’. So, Ivy brought me to have breakfast at Ranau Hakka Food Court. There are tons of choices to choose from, and they operate from morning until midnight. It was rather chilly that morning and I cursed myself for not wearing my UNIQLO Heattech innerwear.

One thing that I love my workplace: Their Tuhau sentiasa kena restock. No Kimchi, no problem. Janji harus ada Tuhau. 😂😂😂 #sapotlokal #bambangan #tuhau #samballada #kundasang #ranau #myheartisinranau #makanan #makanansihat

I feel so blessed that I manage to befriend with everyone in the office within a matter of week. I’m not sure if it’s because of me or maybe because Ranau people are really friendly. But, I bet Ranau people have always be the friendliest ones. In fact, I do have friends who are from Ranau, and they are working in Kota Kinabalu. I must say that they are really good helpers when you need them. Trust me. I got a place to stay from my Ranau friends in Kota Kinabalu. Nantilah sia belanja diorang sebab mana sia dapat kasi selesai masalah sia dalam jangka masa yang singkat kalau bukan dari diorang yang tulung sia. Dear friends, if you are reading my post, you know that you are not forgotten. I will always remember all the good deeds.

If you love local delicacies, well, you can easily find it around Pekan Ranau. The morning Tamu is a ‘must visit’ when you are in Ranau. I usually posted out what I eat when I’m in Ranau and some of my friends even asked me to help buy some local delicacies like Tuhau, Jinaruk Bambangan, Serunding Tuhau, and so on. I may not be able to fulfil every one of them due to my work schedule. Anyway, feel free to come to Ranau and enjoy some of their signature local delicacies. You can get them cheaper here in Ranau.

I guess that’s all for now. I promise to find some time to write soon! Have a great day!

Instagram post 2199153948521983950_549876303 I just love seeing this. I bought it for RM2.00 last time @ Kota Marudu. The Auntie gave me free lagi pokok because I bought lots of these.
My mum said, “Untuk apa ko ini?” “Untuk tanam bah. Manatau ada mau bikin campur nanti, inda payah beli di luar. Tu Auntie bilang Gumuk ni,” I replied.
Months later... “kalau ko keluar pigi luar lagi. Jangan lupa beli bibit yang bulih kasi jadi makanan. Itu cili sama lada ko berbuah banyak ni. Yang itu nangka madu ko sana sudah tu gardener tanam,” my mum said when I was checking my plants. “Bah... TQ. Jadi, orkid inda mau sudah lah kan?” I replied, just wanted to test her.

I know that she has this love on orchids. I remember she even planted all kinds of orchids when we were still living at Tanjung Aru then. “Oii... Orkid sia mau! Ko tulung cari nanti kalau ko balik Ranau.” Okeh kayo... #dayverampas #dayveobsession #everythingasian #dayvepeberet #agro
Instagram post 2198568164106488610_549876303 [DIY Bambangan Facial Mask using @ropuhanditanakwagu ‘s Bambangan Jam]
The Bambangan Jam contains sugar and citrus. Believe it or not. Sugar can be beneficial especially for your skin. Sugar is a natural humectant and it draws moisture into the skin. If you are using sugar based products, it can help hydrate your skin as well as retain moisture. Sugar also contains natural source of glycolic acid, which is an alpha hydroxy acid. This acid penetrates into the skin and holding the skin cells together which allows cell turnover for a fresher and healthier looking skin.

This DIY Bambangan facial mask helps to clear the pores, and prevent blackheads and pimples as Bambangan (same like mango) is packed with cleansing and astringent properties. It also helps to dissolve excess oils and heal acne scars while providing tons of nourishing benefits.

The Aloe Vera gel has this cooling effects that reduce acne inflammation and assist in healing, removing redness and soothing dry or angry skin. Besides, it helps the skin in retaining its moisture and gives back its radiance. It also reduces the visible wrinkles as well as fine lines on the face, prevents premature ageing by improving the elasticity of skin and repairing skin cells.

Apply the mixture of Bambangan jam and aloe vera gel on the skin for 10 – 15 minutes. Then wash off with warm water, and pat the skin dry. Use twice to thrice a week. #bambangan #beautytips #facialmask #sabahan #ropuhanditanakwagu
Instagram post 2196564941841827138_549876303 It’s school holidays or semester break. Most of the kids would be spending time with their family. However, this boy has to sell face mask (the ninja-like mask). As he was approaching us, we saw he was tired. He sat in that table, rubbing his face. That dejected look is something you don’t even want to see if you’re the parents of this kid. “Macam mau pingsan tu budak. Pucat bibir dia ni,” I told Den. We just had our meal when he passed us to sell the mask.

To my surprise, Den immediately walked towards the kid and asked what he wanted to eat. The kid rejected the offer at first but Den insisted that he would like to treat him a nice dinner. Den went straight to the counter and placed order for this boy.

As Den was queuing at the counter, a lady went to ask the boy’s condition. She gave him a red note, and probably telling the boy to get himself a proper meal. Minutes later, Den returned with a tray of meal for this boy.
We waited until the boy finished his meal. Observing his behaviour. He didn’t left the plate on the table, he knows where to put things once he finished his meal. He washed his hands, and went to say ‘Thank you’. After that, he went to try his luck by selling the mask again. At least, he regained his energy. “Dia bilang dia makan nasi sebelah pagi saja... Belum makan dari tengah hari...” I could see Den tried to hold his tears. I understand the feeling, too.
We really admire his attitude... Orang tua bilang, “Penuh Adab dan Sopan Santun.” #letsspreadlove
