Nobody loves having people looked at their blackheads ‘planted’ on their nose. You know how your friends would give you the look when they saw your blackheads – that ‘urge’ look to squeeze out the blackheads. Sebum helps to keep the skin supple and hydrated but having too much sebum would cause blackheads to clogged the pores. I recently received a product which claimed to remove blackheads thus minimize the appearance of enlarged pores. After using it for 14 days, I decided to write my honest review about this product.

What I Say
Hanaka (花恋肌) Charcoal Pores Reduce Facial Mask (冻亮扫黑面膜炭长) comes in a huge chunk of plastic container which weighted about 250gm. I’m not sure if it is the plastic container that is huge (and heavy) or the content is in large quantity (and light?). After watching their promotional ads, I was wondering why there’s no spatula provided to scoop out the product from the container? My first impression was like, “Eh? Why no spatula one de?“. In my opinion, any cream or gel-like product that comes in a container should have spatula, at least, for hygienic purpose. Just imagine the dirts from the fingers that transferred into the product. My good impression about this product dwindled.
The product comes with a rather simple black plastic packaging that is quite big that I find it’s not a travel-friendly. I had to scoop out (using my own spatula) the product and transferred it into a small container. There is not a single instructions and ingredients on the packaging. I had to search on the Internet to learn how to use this product and study the ingredients as well. I also noticed that this product contains Tranexamic Acid which has been used for Rosacea prone skin.
What is Tranexamic Acid?
It is suitable to all kinds of skin for removing pigmentation, whitening skin and reducing spots, such as:
- Pigmentation after sun exposure,
- Dark spots,
- Sensitive skin,
- Acne and inflammation, and
- Postoperative care after laser, pulsed light treatment.
It also functions as:
- Whitening and prevent pigmentation
- Reduce or remove the pigmentation of skin,
- Prevent and/or treat pigmentations such as chloasmas, freckles, sunburn, dark skin and melanoderma caused by a drug such as steroid
- Minimize dark spot area due to sun exposure.
- Act on the chronic mild inflammatory condition at the sites of spots, to suppress melanocyte activation
- Inhibit or improve skin roughness
- Restore damaged skin caused by UVA/UVB, pollution or other environmental factors.
The product was quite jelly-like, sticky, and bouncy. It had a lightweight texture which I thought was quite interesting. Just like it mentioned ‘charcoal’, the colour of the product was also a pitch black. It has cooling sensation that is quite suitable for those who wanted to cool down the face or those who have acne breakouts. Charcoal, in fact, is a good medium to fight acne as well as to be used to disinfect some wounds. Moreover, it has the properties to help flush out environmental toxins, dirts, and debris that can clog pores and cause skin to look overcast.
The application on my skin was not my favourite because of the sticky texture. It was difficult to remove the residue after leaving it for 20 minutes because of its texture. However, the cooling sensation which leave my complexion clarified and refreshed is what I loved so much. I cannot comment on the blackheads and whiteheads case, anyway.
For a huge chunk of facial mask, I find the mask is quite affordable because the price is just below MYR50. Besides, this product can last up to 6 months because it only needs to be used twice a week.
The texture is so jelly-like but sticky. Not my favourite even though it is very cooling and soothing to the skin. Since I don’t have severe blackheads or whiteheads case, I cannot comment this really removed the impurities. However, the cooling sensation it had really is my favourite.
