Do you know that Althea is actually a flower? Althea or Hibiscus syriacus is national flower of South Korea? Yes. Althea flowers can be eaten while the leaves are brewed into herbal tea. Althea is also known as Korean Rose in Korea, Rose Mallow in UK, Bunga Sepatu in Indonesia, and Bunga Raya in Malaysia and Singapore. As you can see the title above, I am going to share about this product which consists of Althea seeds oil, and why you should consider yourself having this product in your collection.
My family has always used herbs and plants as home remedies. It has been running in our family for generations. My great grandmother was a traditional medicine practitioner when she was alive. She knew everything that can be beneficial for well-being and health, even for skin and hair. Most of her knowledge has been passed down to us, and that’s one of the reasons why I believe that natural plants can have more benefits to the skin as well as our health.
Most of us might have never heard that Althea or hibiscus can be eaten or applied topically on the skin. There are a lot of benefits that an Althea can offer. Althea is known as ‘Botox plant’ because of its powerful anti-aging properties. It combats aging process by lifting and firming the skin as well as enhances our skin’s ability to retain moisture so that our skin can maintain its youthfulness.
Unlike harsh synthetic acids which usually strip your skin’s natural oils, the organic acids from Althea balance the production of sebum and purify our skin by breaking down dead skin while increasing cell turnover. It brings back the balance to our skin so that we can enjoy a gorgeous, glowing, even skin-tone, and smooth complexion.
In fact, anthocyanocides in Althea is actually a very rich anti-oxidants which helps to reduce the appearance of large pores, and soothe inflamed skin. Althea also has a natural source of alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) which helps to exfoliate, control oily skin and clogged pores.
Okay. Enough with the talk about Althea because this post is supposed to be ALTHEA’s first ever product under its label – ALTHEA Petal Velvet Powder. Congratulation, Althea Korea! So, here is it. ALTHEA Petal Velvet Powder comes in a small and travel-friendly compact. I find it’s very cute because of the size and the pastel pink colour. This 3g loose powder only cost about MYR16 which I find really affordable!
Althea’s very own product range is here, and we’re starting off strong with the Petal Velvet Powder! This debuting beauty is a translucent powder that sets makeup and leaves behind a silky finish to the touch. Infused with oil from Althea seeds, this powder works to keep sebum production at bay without drying out the skin for a radiant, fresh look, all while giving out a gentle scent. Keep your makeup looking great all day or dust some on to stay shine-free! – ALTHEA.KR
Since it comes in a small slab of loose powder, it means you only need to use it sparingly. I also notice that this loose powder is translucent, so it is advisable to just dab it on forehead, cheeks, and chin. Blend it well. I’m sure nobody wanted to look like Hollywood celebrities who ended up with white streaks on their face. Yup, make-up malfunction can be a total disaster.
I love this loose powder because of its lightweight texture and it does not clog my pores, too. Moreover, ALTHEA Petal Velvet Powder has micro-fine particles with soft and smooth texture. While it does not clogged the pores, it is actually good at blurring the pores and controls the sebum production so make-up can last longer. This non-comedogenic loose powder contains natural and cruelty-free ingredients which is inspired from Althea flower petals.

My Final Verdict
Althea flower is known for its benefits for the skin and that is why I have no doubt of dabbing this on my skin. It does not leave my skin with breakouts or even dryness. I just love the texture and how it makes my skin matte and glowing at the same time. It is recommended to use brush because it only requires small amount. The price is what I find most attractive because it is merely below MYR20! Frankly speaking, this is going straight into my favourite list!
